Doubt

There comes a time when we doubt ourselves in this journey. Whether we have had foster children, are currently fostering a child or children, or are thinking about pursuing the path of foster care, we all doubt ourselves. When I think of this, I think of the verse Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Why have we instilled the feeling that we are not good enough, or cannot keep going on?

Some may never know the answer. The fact is, Satan will try to attack us with each new path the Lord puts us on. I know my family has felt the question of, “Why are we doing this?” because of how many struggles we have been through throughout this process. Yes, both foster care and adoption is hard. Yes, you may have some sleepless nights. Yes, you will feel exhausted. Yes, you will yell at the Lord thinking, WHY?

Why? Why is this process so difficult? Why have these children had to have seen and felt terrible emotional, psychological, and physical trauma? Why are we doing foster care?

Again, some may never know the answer. Because of the fact that this is the real world, there will be pain. There will be hurt, and suffering.

There is a light, though.

When you are in the situation, you are not thanking God for putting you through struggles, right? There seems to be no beauty in the pain. Take a step back and think about it, though. We are doing an AMAZING thing. We are planting seeds in each child’s head, even if they are with us for a short while. We are showing them that they truly can be loved by someone. We are helping them realize that they have potential to be amazing children of God and have a great life ahead of them.

We show love, compassion, selflessness, and many other beautiful attributes by taking in foster children.

So take a look at your work. This is not work for yourself. This cannot be about money, or greed. The process of foster care and adoption is about recognizing that each child is in fact a child of God, and they need to realize that.

Do not be discouraged, because your reward will come in a greater way than you will ever imagine.

Matthew 16:27

“For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.”
